Whole-home system: The only ongoing task is maintaining the salt levels in the brine tank. Check the brine tank monthly and add a bag when it's low. Salt bags are available at Home Depot or Lowe's for $8–10 per bag.

Reverse osmosis system: Replace the filters once every 12 months. There are 3 filters total and the complete replacement set costs $150.

That's it. No complicated upkeep, no proprietary service calls required.

Most households use about one 40 lb bag every 4–6 weeks.

The system regenerates automatically on a schedule, so you never have to think about timing — just keep the brine tank stocked.

Any licensed plumber can service the system — we don't use proprietary parts, so you're never locked into using us for repairs.

The whole-home filtration and softening system continues to filter and soften your water normally during a power outage. The only thing that won't work is the automatic regeneration cycle — but since the system only regenerates about once per month, this is rarely an issue.

For the RO system: the tankless ClarityFlow RO requires electricity to cycle water through the membrane, so it won't produce filtered water during an outage. If you have the tank-style RO, water already stored in the tank remains available.

Our whole-home systems use coconut-shell activated carbon, which reduces chlorine taste and odor at every tap. LA's water is disinfected with chloramines, which are harder for standard carbon to remove than chlorine, so we recommend RO at the kitchen sink for drinking and cooking water.

They solve completely different problems:

• Water softener — removes hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium). Eliminates scale buildup, protects appliances, and is why your skin and hair feel better after showering.
• Water filter (RO) — reduces dissolved solids and improves taste for drinking and cooking.

LA water is hard and contaminated. Our complete system handles both.

Whole-home RO isn't practical for three reasons:

• Water waste — RO sends 1–3 gallons to drain for every 1 gallon it produces.
• Flow rate — Even a high-output system like the ClarityFlow RO produces 800 GPD. A whole home uses thousands.
• Overkill where it doesn't count — You don't need PFAS-grade filtration on the water flushing your toilet.

The right architecture: carbon + softener at the entry point for every tap, RO only at the kitchen tap for drinking and cooking.

Soft water removes the harshness of minerals and allows soap to rinse away completely. What you're feeling after a soft water shower isn't residual soap — it's your skin's natural oils. Hard water strips them away and leaves a mineral film behind. Soft water doesn't.

Most people haven't felt their actual skin after a shower in years. It takes a few days to adjust — then it becomes the new normal, and going back to hard water feels noticeably rough.

Yes — softened water is safe to drink for most people. The softening process exchanges calcium and magnesium for a small amount of sodium. For a typical household, the added sodium is negligible.

That said, most people prefer the taste of RO water for drinking and cooking, which is why our complete system pairs the whole-home softener with an under-counter RO at the kitchen tap. Best of both worlds — soft water everywhere, pure drinking water where you consume it.
